In Da Club

Happy Halloween from the Bush! I went to da club, and by da club I mean the one that shares the parking lot with Timmy Ho's. There were a lot of hos and pimps out that night, both sexy and so unsexy it was spooky. Way to capture that Halloween spirit, folks!

"Gosh darn-it I forgot my Halloween costume!"

The Berry Barn

The madre is gone now, but I will continue to post about her visit. As you may have seen on facebook, I took her to a place that advertised itself as the best in Saskatoon hospitality. This place was The Berry Barn

A barn! Or is it...

It was on a nice spot by the South Saskatchewan River, and to get there we drove by many farms, other Berry Barn-esque businesses, and the landfill.

"Any open houses in the area?" -Mother Wang

I actually live pretty close to the landfill. Handy if I need to find a bunch of seagulls to lasso to my giant peach!

Keeping informed

Went on a walk with the m-unit around campus the other day when I suddenly found myself strolling alone on the sidewalk. I looked around and there was the madre, intently studying a parking lot regulations sign.

"Anyway, good to know."

My own car was parked on the street off campus.

Larry David

I see this in every parking lot I've been to, which is many here in the bush - black belt parking skills.

Fitting into this tight space must have been hard.
Bravo, sir!

Life Dilemma

I am facing a huge life dilemma* - where should I work part-time during the day?

Option 1: lowly barista at Starbucks, making 15 cents above minimum wage. But I get to drink all the free coffee I want while I'm on shift!

Option 2: working lunch shifts at a "high-end" Japanese restaurant downtown. Here is a link to a most hilarious review... If you don't know which one I'm referring to, then I guess you'll never know because I won't tell you since it should be obvious. OK FINE it's the one left by EricaH.

Option 3: working the front desk at the Holiday Inn! If Snoop Dogg were to pass through town, he'd chill there, right? Except that it's a Holiday Inn Express, and I think part of my job would be to drive the shuttle bus between the airport and the hotel. Fun? Embarrassing? Awesome?

Because let's be honest, I am competing against high school students for these jobs, and ain't no one going to out-compete a high school student for their job like me.

Wouldn't it be fantastical to have to wear a stiff kimono while serving? And I could go really go all out and paint my face white and draw my eyebrows in an inch above where they really are, and make my hair into the shape of a peach so that I show off the sexy back part of my neck. Because according to the creepy guy who wrote Memoirs of a Geisha, people LO-OVE them some peach neck cleavage.

*not actually a dilemma

Classy Shopping

Webster's dictionary defines the word classy as an adjective meaning, "without class." True story.

I have been frequenting some extremely classy retail establishments since moving to the Bush.
Yesterday, after a hard morning's work, I treated myself with a trip to Giant Tiger, a very classy Canadian chain, to which I had never been before. What a treat!

Canada is known for its giant tigers.

Fluorescent lighting and plastic hangers, my fave!

Then this afternoon I really went all out and went to the king of classy, Walmart.

Good job, Walmart!

Yes, Walmart sells "fresh" produce! Yes, I bought 2 Walmart-brand chicken breasts from the meat section! I am living it up and having adventures!

Art

My boss likes to paint, and when I found out, I jokingly asked if I could have one of her paintings to decorate my room. "I've just moved in and my walls are bare!" So she ran out to her car and brought back more than ten paintings, lay them on an exam table, and told me that I could take all of them if I wanted. I chose just one, and here is a picture of it:

existential cat and ball of yarn

All of her paintings were of dogs and cats, and now this lucky cat is floating in its multicoloured free-space above my bed.

My local news anchors are SAXY!

While watching the local evening weekend news, I couldn't help but notice how attractive the anchors were. These people are so high profile, I couldn't even find pictures of them on CTV's website or anywhere else online! So I resorted to taking pictures of the TV screen with my HTC.

Sports! Exciting!

Economy-grade Will Shuester keeps it real while reporting the news!

The best part was when the two of them were in the same shot! Look at their on-screen chemistry!

"Hey wouldn't it be fun if we wore matching suits for tonight's show?"

I have to apologize for my bad timing - after taking the above picture, the two anchors clumsily attempted a fist bump. Imagine it: sports guy throws his fist forward, news guy gets confused and keeps his fist clenched on the desk, and then nothing! No fist bump bump! I'm thankful though, because failed fist bump makes local tv magic.

Things I see when I leave my apartment

When I look back at my building, this is what I see. I live on the second floor.

Then I walk towards this, the biggest purchase I have ever made in my life so far. Baller who, baller what!

Then I get in the car, and dangerously take pictures of the scenery as I drive.
I think I'm in the prairies...
 It's flat!
The horizon really is a thing!

Partay time!

Tequila, it's the place to be when you're in the S-K-T! And for those after hours munchies, hit up the Tim Horton's! These two fine establishments share a parking lot!

Hello, I have brudder now?

This is Chris the Cat. Yes Bung, Chris. He will be Wally's new brother. He is lounging on my much-appreciated pink floral blanket.

Bright lights on Broadway

Broadway Ave is the only area outside downtown that features small business storefronts, rather than the large drive-in plazas with chain stores that grace the rest of the city. I love these three blocks.

Check Broadway out on a Sunday evening. It's bumpin'!

Beaver in the Bush

Do you see me? I'm grading papers behind my bale of hay.

Yesterday my gracious hostess and only friend took me on a tour of the veterinary medicine building at U of S. I saw this beaver behind a closed door. I think he teaches first year anatomy.

I was blown away by the drab concrete interior of the building, and am looking forward to spending four years of my life there. Across from the vet building, is the agricultural building with its beautiful spiral staircase and glass exterior, but I don't envy those agricultural students their sleek modern building, no I don't.

Fun fact: the cafeteria in the vet building had its food services cancelled! Watch out Prof. Beaver...
